Default Mechanical Brakes adjustment

I've been reading a lot about adjusting brakes on a Model A Ford and getting different opinions on the correct way to do the adjustment. Some say the adjusting procedure using the board with the 3 notches in it is the way to do it.
Others say to tighten the adjuster until you get equal drag on all the shoes and you're done.
What is the general consensus as to the best way to adjust the brakes.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
