I think he was wearing the gloves because he was going to start the car with the crank.

He doesn’t have the best technique, e.g., using both hands. I guess it works for him, until it doesn’t! But since I’m in my 80’s, I can relate. At my age, I’m not sure I still have the strength to use one hand either, so if I’m ever in a bind I may just have to resort to that two hand method.
