385 S-T Looking for info on this cam. I believe it's an Almquist 385 S-T but cannot find much info. Anyone know? It's not in my possession I'm considering buying it.

I found that thread but I didn't see where it actually list the cam. That's what made me think it was an Almquist grind though.

I bought the cam so I'll be able to hopefully measure it out but would still like to see some old info. My 1950 Almquist catalog doesn't list it.

The number 385 I would expect that is the lift dimension. Not really a full race cam if its only 385 lift. To be sure of the lift dimension measure the heal diameter and then the height of the lobe. Next subtract the heal measurement from the lobe height thats the lift of the cam.

Not many early "Full Race" cams had very high lift. Isky was probably ine of the first that came close to the .400 lift range. The base circle determine the max lift. Using new cam cores raised the price of the cam, and the name "full Racr" was more of an advertising Ploy to sell more cams. I have a "cleveland Hone came with 28-72 int .350
62-22 ex lift .335 and this cam was ground in 1937. This cam was/ stil is running in a 27 T roadster in a 239 stock engine. The car isn\t that fast, but the sound comes from Heaven

I was able to measure the lift & it roughly measures .321" Seems small?

Kind of, but maybe not be totally true. Duration is the next measurement you need to figure out. I had a Weber cam at one time that had something like .350" lift with almost 290 degrees of duration. The lobes were literally like table tops.

The lift is small . . . definitely not what I'd call "Full Race". BUT - as others have noted, the terms of "3/4" and "Full Race" were marketing terms - really just something to help uneducated hotrodders have some bragging rights. Many a guy could tell you he had a "full race" cam - without any clue as to what his specific specs actually were. LOL

Who ground your Potvin 425? From the picture, the lobes don't look quite correct (the profile at the peak) - but I might be seeing things. There are a lot of copies in the world, many of which are not really done as they should be.

Good luck with all your cams . . . don't yah just love how your mind gets into these darn bump sticks! LOL

I would get that 425 cleaned up before you decide to use it. It looks pretty grungy and rusty.

The gross looking one is the ST 385 cam. It's covered in cosmoline. It'll need some cleanup though
