Default 1949 head light switch removal

is there a trick to taking the head light switch out of the dash on a 1949 F1? after unscrewing the nut that holds the switch in, whats the trick at removing the knob to get it thru the dash hole?......is there a clip or button on the switch to remove the shaft?, or does the knob just pull off the stem to allow the shaft to go thru the dash hole.
