While trying to get two usable carburetors together, I ran across this one that has a different fuel line fitting. Is this something that came stock or maybe it was used to repair the fuel inlet threads?

Yes, that’s a repair. More than one way to skin a cat, repair fittings have been around since back in the day, yours looks to be a modern version.

It's a heli coil repair thread size 7/8 x 20 TPI. Look it up on Google.

I thought helicoils were stainless. That looks to be a brass insert of some kind. Keensert?

The threads in a 94 bowl should be 1/2 x 20. That does look like a insert to me not a helicoil. I think either will work as long as its installed square, it has to seal with the gasket.

You'd probably be able to find an unmodified carb top easier, Art. Unless the repair is truly a commonly found and well known device.

I would think a common Helicoil would have a tendency to leak in that application. I would prefer to use some kind of insert.

The brass part that is marked ".098" looks to me like the fuel inlet/seat of off a Stromberg 97? I don't think it's a 94 Holley part.

Looks like you are correct, there is a Stromberg fuel inlet that is .098 orifice.

Not sure what Clive is saying by never seeing a 1/2" thread. They're all 1/2" by design.
I wonder if the fix was to take them to 9/16" I've never had a stromberg, can I assume the thread is the same as a 94? 1/2"-20? I'm just going by my 94 experience. Mart. |

The fuel line connection is the same as the Holley but where it threads into the carb it's 7/16. It's an expensive repair by the time you purchase the inlet, insert, proper drill and tap. Not to mention associated shipping costs.

Art, are you rethreading a pipe thread to 1/2-20? To make it a face seal instead of an olive (as we call them) fitting?
I actually went out to the garage (it's nearly midnight here) to check a 94 is 1/2 -20. I began to doubt myself. so, if I have this right, a stromberg has a brass fitting with a 7/16 thread into the carb. This brass fitting takes the normal 1/2" "ford" nut. this is adapted into a worn out or damaged holley by threading out to 9/16 and using an insert to adapt down to 7/16 to take the brass piece robbed from a stromberg? I can see why you're using the lathe to get you out of a mess. Mart edit: "standard" (UNF) for 7/16 is a 20 tpi pitch. 24 is used on weatherhead fittings like brake pipes for 1/4" tube nuts. I turned down this $3 fitting to .503 , smoothed out the threads in the carb with a .500 bit, Added a bit of sleeve retainer and pressed it together.
