You might try Skip Haney in Florida, he does flathead v8 pumps, but not sure if he does the 6 cyl. pumps

Re: 226 G six cylinder water pump
These "G" Series Ford Six Cylinder Water Pumps are very unique. A mate bought a 1946 Ford Sedan Coupe with the Six Cylinder Engine, and the Water Pump was shot. I managed to locate this one on eBay and had it shipped out. It worked out much cheaper that having his original rebuilt. |

Try N.B.Pease Antique Auto Parts in Palmer, Ma. 1-413-283-7620. Nelson specializes in mechanical parts. He may have a new, or rebuilt water pump in stock.

Re: 226 G six cylinder water pump
Here's the situation. Several people I have found out can rebuild this pump. I have found a few NOS or NORS one too. and I can get 3 NOS/NORS ones for the price of a rebuild. My concern is, I dont know what the seals of the NORS ones are made of and so after 70 years how long they will last.
Anyone have an answer to the life of the 70 year old seal question?? |

Re: 226 G six cylinder water pump
I put NOS 8BA pumps on the v8 I rebuilt. They leaked and had to be taken off and rebuilt.

Re: 226 G six cylinder water pump
The seal as in rubber if been stored in a cool area should be ok...
The thing with the early ford pumps are that the carbon seal against the cast iron in the impeller so if stored in a damp place they rust...you start it up and the rust chews up the seal and leaks. I usually take the impeller away and check/clean atleast then they usually work. Then it can be debated how good grease are after a few decades... |

Re: 226 G six cylinder water pump
The 41 G series used a pump with a bushing and carbon seal similar to the V8 pumps. After 41 the changed to a sealed bearing type pump.

Re: 226 G six cylinder water pump
Even the 8BA ford pumps had the seal run against the castiron backend of the impeller.
To my knowledge no ford pumps had an integrated seal running against a ceramic surface like in the modern seals for waterpumps ? |

Re: 226 G six cylinder water pump
okay guys, new delimma.
I now have two water pumps. one is NOS the other is on the car and leaking. the NOS has straight cut vanes on the impeller, the leaking one has helical "curved" cut ones. I have heard the curved ones are better and cause less cavitation. does anyone know which pump I should have rebuilt? I just got the NOS because I'd like to have a back up, they'll both be rebuilt eventually Which one should i get rebuilt to get the car going? |

Re: 226 G six cylinder water pump
Put the NOS one on and see if it works. No use rebuilding something if it don't need to be rebuilt.

Re: 226 G six cylinder water pump
Not certain about the G engines but the H versions - with the OE pump - are good on temps provided the shroud is in place.

The NOS one off the car should be easily refreshed...not even a full rebuild needed. If i rember right the early G pumps have the same seals as the -49 v8 with a carbon seal sitting in the impeller. While the H has a more modern design like 8BA V8. Was a while since i rebuilt one... |
