Exhaust Manifold bot holes
I discovered today that exhaust manifold bolt holes are stripped out. What have you all done to fix that? Drill and retap with 7/16?

Re: Exhaust Manifold bot holes
I should clarify, it's the ones into the block not the manifold itself.

Re: Exhaust Manifold bot holes
What holes are you referring to? You are aware, aren't you, that the bolts in the front exhaust ports are already 7/16". (The others are 3/8".)

Thanks Tubman! No, I wasn't aware of that, or I guess I forgot since I tookit apart. That makes me feel better. Yeah, it is the front left side where I discovered it.

Re: Exhaust Manifold bot holes
Sooo…..maybe if you try a 7/16" bolt instead of a 3/8", it may not feel like it's stripped? DD

Re: Exhaust Manifold bot holes
Do not put to long a bolt in that hole as it is a blind hole and you can punch out the bottom in to the water jacket and get a leak Bolt 20420 S 7/16-14 X1 3/16 Ford made there own bolts so often not common sizes.

Re: Exhaust Manifold bot holes
Two things a guy should remember about these old "boilers" : the front exhaust ports are 7/16" and that there is a #$@^$# bolt inside the water pump.

Use socket head cap screws and anti seize.

Re: Exhaust Manifold bot holes
That's one solution to any future problems, once you figure-out how to get that #$@^$#bolt out that Henry installed seventy or eighty years ago on the first go-round. DD |

Actually no, but I've certainly run into a nasty bolt or three while salvaging a block or two. DD |
