Just want to share my pride, the paint job " Maroon " done 3 coats wet in wet . My arm hurts like hell during the job the gun seems to get heavyer and heavyer. Not a single drip or run.
OEPS I GOOFED the first picture is not my car the one with masking on is mine. Last edited by Gerard; 12-18-2011 at 03:55 PM. |

Congratulations! I know the feeling.
I got a few runs on my paint job, but only in the corners of the window reveals, where the horizontal and vertical passes of the gun overlapped. Doug

Great looking job! Did you use PPG's acrylic lacquer on that?
Also what type of gun did you use? I'm getting ready to paint mine and am trying to gather all the info I can before I start. Thanks in advance for any tips you can share. Bob |

Bob, I use a Dutch spray gun At least 35 years old but very well maintained . Before I start to do paint job I place a piece of wrapping paper Approx 2 feet by 2 feet flat on the wall dull side towards me. Then I adjust my spray pattern and paint quantity on the gun. ( test spray ) Then I turn the paper with the shiny towards me and repeat the process ( fine tuning ) I am then able to see the flow process on the paper. If satisfied I continue to do the job. Air pressure is around 60 pounds at the regulator and water trap. The pressure is less at the gun but never bothered to measure. The above discribed method worked fine for me over the years .
Paint is PPG concept acrylic . To dilute the paint I use a so called DIN cup and measure the flow for the flow trough the spout in seconds and then I know I did it right. Din cups are not known to my knowledge in the USA maybe you guy's use something different. But I just loaned my DIN cup to a professional ( Roll's R guy ) he was amazed that something like that existed.I know for certain there are others who think differently about the way I do it. But the end results are counting only. |

The paint sheet I have refers to a Zahn Cup. A stainless steel cup woth a small whole in the bottom. You dip the cup in the paint and measure the time it takes until the paint breaks the stream.
With the Din cup, I think you wait until the cup is empty.

Beautiful job. If you ever get to Iowa, I'll be glad to let you paint my 29 pickup.

Looks great, now you can start with a block, some soap, and some 1500 grit wet or dry paper.

No sanding anymore just a light buff to get a deeper shine but that's it.
