Re: 1940 ford coupe headers
The only ones that fit properly will be those from Red's Headers specific for the '40 or the ones from Speedway that fit a '40 with the Vega steering box.

Re: 1940 ford coupe headers
I've got the 59AB and Red's headers, plenty of clearance.

Re: 1940 ford coupe headers
Per a 56 HOT ROD Flathead article " HOW TO BUILD A FLATHEAD MOTOR"if you have a basically stock engine, stock manifolds work quite well.

Re: 1940 ford coupe headers
Guys, check out his original post; he is talking "center dumps". I have never done it in a car, but i have a set I use on the flatheads I run on my engine stand. From what I have seen (I have a set of Fenton's on my '51 which weren't supposed to fit), the center dumps will interfere big time with the steering box. I may be wrong, but I'd check carefully.
BTW the stainless center dumps I have on my test stand are very nice; even though they were made in China. You can buy a set for less than $100. Although the headers were great, the bolts that came with them were metric and didn't work at all. After I replaced them with the proper sized header bolts, it only took a little modification to make everything work fine. Why they would supply the wrong bolts is just beyond me; it's like a 99 yard drive by a football team, just to fumble on the 1 yard line. I guess they have accountants screwing things up in China too. |

Re: 1940 ford coupe headers
I have Fenton headers on my 41 Ford pick up and am very happy with them. Worth the xtra money.

Re: 1940 ford coupe headers
I have them on my '51 Coupe (I know, they're not supposed to fit shoeboxes) and am very happy with them. I installed the system in 1987. When I changed engines two years ago, I looked the exhaust system over carefully. It was still in excellent shape.
