Current BEST TIRES for daily driver?
Hi folks,
What are your thoughts on the best tires for a daily driver model A? Probably 5-10 miles average a day, maybe a little more. I don't care about about white wall or blackwall, just wondering what current thoughts on the best tires for daily driving. Planning on doing some tours too. Would like to keep it around $150 and under if possible for each. |

I am very happy with the Goodyear tires I put on about 4 years ago....much better than the prior BF Goodrich. Lots of guys now are using the newer radial tires and seem very happy with them.

Re: Current BEST TIRES for daily driver?
My first two sets of tires were Firestones. They were ok and I purchased them because that what came with the new stock A.
I purchased a set of Goodyears two years ago. I like them because they hold the road better and go straight down the road (no wandering). My next set will also be Goodyears... |

Go with radials and never look back.

Re: Current BEST TIRES for daily driver?
Thanks for the advice, however I'm really trying to keep it below $150 a tire right now. Are Universal's okay for daily driving and tours?

Some lessons learned: They are made in Nam and the quality so far seems OK after 2 years , but the nylon cord gets flat spots from sitting which work themselves out after a mile or so of driving , etc. Afterwards, the ride and tracking is good. Polyester cord would have been better. ( I forgot to check before purchase.) Ordered tubes and radial tubes were sent , appear to be fine in these bias ply tires. They hold air but need to be checked periodically. The Universals may be similar. |

Re: Current BEST TIRES for daily driver?
I have Universals on my 30 pickup, they've been on there about 10-12 years now. They seem fine, and I like the looks of them.My sedan had Sears tires that were about 50 years old, they still go down the road fine.My roadster had Wards Riverside tires on it,I really liked those,it was parked in 1971 with them on it,and I have no idea how long they had been on there at that time. For the most part, hard black and round are my criteria.

I always used Firestones since about 1970 [ well, they were made here in those days] but the last set bought 3 years ago were Universal [ Vietnam] which I am pleased with for everyday use & moderate cost compared to other brands. Show no wear yet & ride nicely with a vintage style tread. Cheers. Tom.

The Nokia 550x19 bias ply are under $150; they might be worth a try.

The Lucas Nokia tire can be had for $129 right now. https://www.lucasclassictires.com/55...kwall-299p.htm Looks like a nice tire.
I have been running Lucas Olympic tire for ~4 years with no problems. |

Be very careful ordering new tubes....many seem to have problems. I have heard that the ones Bratton’s sells are very good....

BEST TIRES for daily driver are the best tires you can get--not the cheapest you can get!
I agree with Mike, and the only people who disagree with us about radials are folks who haven't tried them. Last edited by steve s; 07-21-2019 at 05:34 PM. |

Re: Current BEST TIRES for daily driver?
Good Evening...I have run the Lucas Nam tires for several years now and they are a good value for the money...they replaced 25 year old tires...and they are clearly much better! They don't wander down the road and I think that they look just fine. More expensive tires might be better, but these are certainly adequate. Ernie in Arizona

Re: Current BEST TIRES for daily driver?
I put on Universals from Coker a few years ago. The price was right and they've been very good tires. I got tubes from Mac's and they've been good too. That's been about 6 years ago, at that time I paid less than $90 each for them.

Re: Current BEST TIRES for daily driver?
How fast are you driving? The Lucas tires I had several years ago seemed to wander above 50. I sold them and went back to Michelins, and the car handled better again. When these are gone, I going radial.
