It just proves that when something becomes collectable the price just keeps climbing.

This seller has several other similarly priced auctions and they all show that there is only one remaining to be sold. If someone is stupid enough to pay the dummy price, the seller would probably quickly locate one from another dealer to complete the sale!!! When the item is back in stock they simply change the price back to normal, change the number in stock and the auction is back to normal.
Looks like they're back in stock and they've changed the price back to normal as I stated above would likely happen.

What is the advantage to doing this other than the chance of paying $1000 instead of $100, which is not very likely? Does it cost you to close/remove the listing, and open a new listing when things are back in stock?

Just curious - I've never sold anything on eBay, and do not know.

worst thing like this I ever saw was a used Bratton's catalog selling on eBay.
I think it was $8.00-$12.00 or so.
several years ago.
