Hi guys,
1953 8BA that I'm finishing rebuilding - had it converted to high-flow. Which oil filters are you guys using? Thanks, Carl |

Do you mean a Melling M-15 pump? If so, change it to the standard M-19 pump.

No, I mean the block has been drilled and grub-screwed to 95% filtration (don't quote me on that number) and I understand I now need to use a modern screw-on type filter.
Which filter is the question. |

Motorcraft Fl 1A. Of course, the filter must fit the remote base. I'm not sure how many options there are for bases that use filters with other thread/filter sizes.

I thought that was sorta the standard for most of them.

The universal oil filter mounts available at Jegs, Summitt and Speedway have the correct size thread also NAPA offers remote oil filter mounts with the correct thread size. The Motorcraft inlet size is larger I think its 7/8 than the GM filters this helps flow oil faster so theres no delay in getting pressure to the engine and showing on the gauge. Thats what I have learned from many decades of building engines for my cars and the engines I have and continue to build for others. Ronnieroadster

One thing you have to consider is the quality of the filers. At one time the Fram was considered the best and I used them back in the 60's on the race motors. I also used onr on my first 280 several years ago. When I crossed the lines when installing the engine in the truck. well the bearings didn't last long. I realize my stupid factor has increased over the years, but I also found out the Fram is now made offshore and is not a very good filter. Wicks is considered very good and makes allot of other name brand filters. Iy's sad that we can't trust some of the items we relied on back in the day. Quality is replaced by the all mighty buck.

You can use either a NAPA 4762 or a 4764 mounting adapter with the 1515 filter
