I was tool maker and thus know exactly what he was referring to.
My original point made to the previous reference of plating making a difference in ultimate fit stands on its own. Plating is so very thin, it won't make any difference- ever, on production parts.

I was in tooling as well, the hard chrome is much thicker than the ornamental chrome.
