I agree with you but probably many go for the Mitchell despite the price and no syncro on 1st because it fits without cutting the car up and without roaming ebay or car graveyards for a suitable tranny.

My preferred option is the syncro "55mph in 2nd gear" Ruckstell transmission, see:
