Vin?
Let me start my first post by introducing myself. My name is Tom and I love all things mechanical, I have two vehicles from the 60’s and now plan to put my dad’s 33/34 truck together. The truck has been sitting in a barn disassembled for 35 years. I brought it home to Maryland intending to sell it, But couldn’t do it after getting it out of the dark dusty barn and putting the body and fenders in place. I decided it was worth more to me then I could get for it.
So here I am with my first question. I have title for a 33 ford TK, but the VIN doesn’t have the proper sequence of numbers B521####. From what I have looked up, a VIN assigned in 1933-34. Should be *18-######* this is what I found on the frame. Any ideas on how I have a title with a VIN that doesn’t appear to match any 33-34 VIN but states 1933 ford TK? |

Re: Vin?
What you have is a 4 cyl title that corresponds to May-June 1933.V8''s began with 18.Do you have the orig frame for the truck?

Re: Vin?
It sounds like someone replaced the original 4 cylinder frame with a frame from a V8. Maybe your DMV could instruct you on how to get the frame re-stamped or something.

Re: Vin?
From what I gather, your frame has a number beginning "18". If this is what you have to work with, then the title can not be matched unless you have a 4-cylinder Model B engine with a transmission that is stamped with an original VIN number above the inspection cover. Big trucks were generally stamped BB. Pickups (commercial car) were stamped same as passenger cars and could begin with a B prefix or an 18 prefix.

Re: Vin?
4 cylinder numbers for anything after the Model A started with B5000000 your number makes perfect sense if the truck was still a 4 cylinder truck with it's original frame.
Is there another frame there that may be the original frame? Probably a long shot. There are lots of threads on this forum on the subject, the procedures seem to differ in each state. Anyway, good luck with it and welcome to the forum. Is it a big truck or a classic half ton pickup? Mart. |

Re: Vin?
Thanks for all the info.
So it seems I only looked up the VIN for 8 cylinder models and I have a title for a 4 cylinder. After talking to my dad, I found out he traded his chopped up 33 frame with a 327 and automatic for a 34 frame with an 34 flathead 8, manual trans. and rear. The VIN on the frame belongs to a 34 8 cylinder. The truck is a ½ ton “smaller” truck. So I’m in the process of getting the title for the frame, I think that would be the better one to have. |

Re: Vin?
Welcome to the barn. Great to hear your bringing it back to life. Are you going flathead or OHV? Good luck with the project.
We must have posted at the same time. I see the flathead and the whole truck looks great.

Re: Vin?
The pickups in that time frame 32 thru 34 have a lot of similarities. It would be well worth the effort to title the V8 frame even though it's a 34. Many have been hot rodded over the years. It's nice to see originals or even near originals.

Re: Vin?
Hi Everyone. Tom, Welcome to the FordBarn Forums!
You've really got a great vehicle there! For inspiration, I'm including a photo of one that I snapped at a EFV-8CA meet in Auburn IN, in 2011. I never saw the truck after that meet. It was a stunner, and still used as daily transportation, just like it should. It sounds like you've got a title. And a frame/vehicle. And they don't match. This could be a bit of a sticky situation. Might be a time where a title service could be of assistance? Here's the link from MD MVA of licensed businesses listed by county. http://www.mva.maryland.gov/business...itle-services/ A side note, if it's a gift from your dad to you then you should investigate the situation with sales taxes, you should be exempt. I'd also encourage you to think about joining the Early Ford V-8 Club of America, and the Maryland based Regional Group 36. Many RG36 members are also members here on the FordBarn, some of them post regularly, and some of them keep tabs on the conversations. We HAD been having our meetings in Sunshine MD, but that's gotta change beginning next year. What corner of MD are you in? PS After looking more closely at your photos, it looks like yours might be a '32 21 louvered hood. Notice there's no spot for the Ford badge like in my photo? I know squat about those vehicles, but I've heard those are very desirable and go for impressive money. I'm adding a picture of one of those I found on the interwebs so no idea how correct it is.

Re: Vin?
Very nice old pickup. Looks like some great sheetmetal. Good luck with this project as it has a lot of potential. Join the Early Ford V-8 Club and get to know your fellow V-8ers in your area. There's lots of knowledge from those members to help you with your project. www.earlyfordv8.org.

Re: Vin?
VeryTangled....the 33 hood didn't have the badge on the side like a 34 does.

Re: Vin?
The body seems to have had a hanging pedal conversion at some time.
Good luck with the project. Mart. |
