Default Steering Box/Column Rebuild

I am rebuilding the steering box on my 51 f1 this winter.

I cannot find much information regarding the steering column.

Is there anything I should be doing with the column?

If there are any articles or info someone can direct me to I would be very thankful.

The shop manual has a section on the steering gear.

The steering column is basically a hollow tube except for the bearing at the top. Is it a column shift?

Then you might want to check out all of the linkage. Outside my knowledge base, everything I work on is floor shift.
