The spring clips got to be at the 9+3 positions to come outYou might have to turn the switch to get them to line up with the slots in the hole which are at 9+3. ken ct.

Ken has it right but let me add a caution to it. The two spring clips are often very rusted and super brittle. So, it is not unusual that they break-off when you remove the switch. When you attempt to reinstall the switch it won't lock into position. If this happens you have a couple of options. First, use a "modern" type of light switch ('49-'50 Ford light switch which looks "somewhat "close to the other knobs) or use the broken switch. If you decide to stay quasi-original and want to stay with the factory switch, try this. Slide a chunk of hose over the switch body and then use a heater hose clamp (the modern screw type) to squeeze the rubber into the back of the dash locking everything together. I know it is a back-woods repair but, it usually works.

These switches were frail from the start especially with the cardboard insert in the back. You would think that somebody by now would have made a repo light switch for '35-'37 Fords. I have talked personally to Bob Drake about this. Either he didn't understand what I was talking about or he had no interest. In the meantime, unless someone takes an interest in making the switch you gotta improvise.

thanks everyone for replies. I want to remove so I can paint the rusted bezel. If it feels like it is going to break, I may just leave in place and paint.
