Default odd serial number question

this thought woke me up this morning [shows that i spend WAY too much time thinking about old fords!] the frames were already painted when the motor & trans were installed. so, the paint would have been chipped when the numbers were stamped. so, were those spots touched up or left chipped? anybody know? anybody care? has this been asked before?

Numbers were stamped before it was painted I believe.
