Spark plug connection
Newbie question again.
Which end of the brass strip plug connectors fit onto the top of the spark plug...the forked end or the eye end? Have a 29 closed cab pickup and the spark plugs have no threaded nuts or male threads at their tops. The forked end on the strips straddle the top tip on the spark plugs...is this correct? Many thanks for your help. |

Also try to buy the reddish colored bronze straps, rather than the soft yellow brass straps. |

On the other hand, if you are concerned about points judging, buy new appropriate plugs.

Re: Spark plug connection
As a person trapped in suburbia, I would have never thought of that. Makes me laugh. I would like to see it sometime.

Re: Spark plug connection
Realize it in not what you want to use if you had your car judged but if you are out in the boonies and you need a connector, there may be a fence near by that you can borrow a piece from.

Re: Spark plug connection
I have awarded myself the 'Stupid Guy Who Doesn't Know Much' trophy.
The spark plugs do have threads and nuts. It is the distributor studs that do not. Was wondering if the spring tension from the spark plug strips is insufficient to maintain continuity with the distributor studs. I thought that maybe this was the reason why the engine dies after it warms up. |

Re: Spark plug connection
How long does it run after it warms up?
Just instant death, or sputtering before death?

Re: Spark plug connection
I am one of those lucky ones. In college on my way to a girlfriend 140 miles away, the car started running like hell. Stopped to find one of the connectors was just gone. Since I had some clothes for the weekend and a coat hanger, I used a piece of coat hanger and used pliers to twist tighten it down on both ends. Drove like a charm and in fact I did not replace it for quite a few months.
