I'll tell you why I am thinking about it. Years ago I had a gear box on a rotary mower that leaked 85-90 gear oil out the bottom seal. I pumped ordinary gun grease into the gear box, added some gear oil to that and the mower has run fine for years. Oil stopped leaking too.
I'm not looking at this idea as a long term solution to the Merc differential leak but thought for short term til I get time to do a real fix that grease might work.
Not sure what I will find when I open this differential up but it has a real howl on deceleration.
