Originally they pointed to the front, then Ford put out a bulletin to bend them back towards the rear to help stop loss of coolant. I left mine pointing to the front. I'd rather slip a short piece of hose over the tube than bend it rearward, if I was having coolant loss. The coolant only needs to cover the tops of the radiator tubes. If enough tubes are plugged then the coolant will fill the top tank and go out the overflow tube no matter which way it points.
