Default Building a Speedster Questions..?? Help Please..

I am thinking of building a Model A speedster... Nothing too fancy.... I thought it might be fun and I could add a body later if I wanted.

I have a couple of questions about the speedster build...

1. I am currently working on an engine I picked up pretty cheap last fall and might be able to use it for the build. Would this engine fit all Model A car chassis?

2. Budget is low and I see rolling chassis come up at a pretty good price both with and without an engine... All that I've seen don't come with a title...I would assume that most of these titles were either lost long ago or used on another build...

Any advice on using one of these non-titled chassis for a speedster build?
Could I go the the Michigan SOS and have them check a VIN to see if it's already titled to someone else?

[B]Upon looking at the Michigan SOS website I found this on obtaining a title for a vehicle:

http://www.michigan.gov/sos/0,4670,7...806--F,00.html

Section 3 is as follows:

As a last resort when a Michigan vehicle title has been lost, destroyed, or stolen and the purchaser is unable to contact the previous owner for a duplicate title, a Michigan resident can self-certify ownership at a Secretary of State branch office if the vehicle is ten or more years old and valued at $2,500 or less. The self-certification procedure cannot be used for vehicles titled in another state or by nonresidents.

You will need to submit:

a) A completed TR-205 Certification of Ownership (available on-line at all Secretary of State offices) stating you are the rightful owner of the vehicle and including the vehicle description, the true value of the vehicle, and a complete explanation of how, when, where, and from whom the vehicle was acquired; and

b) Either of the following:

A vehicle value appraisal completed by a licensed Michigan dealer, or
A page printed from an on-line appraisal service such as Kelly Blue Book, N.A.D.A. Guides, Edmunds, etc. (www.kbb.com, www.nadaguides.com, www.edmunds.com).
On-line appraisal sites may provide multiple vehicle values (wholesale value, trade-in value, and retail value). Any of these values showing a value of $2,500 or less may be accepted.

Thanks to all,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Yes, all Model A engines will fit in all Model A chassis. There are some very minor tweaks like motor mounts from very early 28 and such but if you stick with 29-31 you should be fine. Can't help with titling but I would try and get a rolling chassis-it is all but done.

You may want to check out the HAMB as we are more of the stock car type crowd. But, hey ask away some people here have 'slightly' modified their cars. We will always give you an answer.

Mike

Go to a privately owned company/person that does licensing, it may cost you a little but I have found it is worth it. They can search the chassis number and if it is not in use you can file for title as a lost-title. Otherwise they can advise you on what to do. Good luck!

I agree with Jim. Without a title, they will treat it as a Kit Car, and it will be required to have everything road legal. Wiper, fenders, turn signals.
