brake assembly
Hi Gents:
What's the correct sequence for assembling my '48 Lockheed brakes? Do the hold down clips slide in last? The spring doesn't seem too easy either- Thanks, R Sullivan |

Re: brake assembly
On my 39 brakes I slid the shoes into the clips. I didn't need to remove them. They make tools for the spring but I just put one side in then used a good grip with some needle nose pliers to set the other side in. Regular pliers would probably work on the front but the rears you got to grip the spring under/around the ebrake levers. Vicegrips would make it easier I imagine if you're having trouble gripping the spring

Re: brake assembly
I usually put the bottoms on the anchors, swing the shoes up into the clips, and use a vise grip on the spring.
A piece of tape make a good "third hand" to hold the first shoe in place while you install the second one. |

Re: brake assembly
Thanks for the help. I now think I have to order new clips. After
sand blasting and painting the backing plates, The old clips do not stay in during assembly- |
