X 2 on post #3.
Ours failed on G.R. Rally in remote Nebraska. Had about 3K miles on it. It decided not to work. Original distributor under the seat and about 10 minutes and we were on our way.
They are kinda like a pet rattlesnake....one day....

I also checked under the "animals" and all the other headings and photos available on the referenced web site but I'll be damned if I am going to read 71 pages of boring travel notes to find what he probably could have described in a few sentences or a nice clear photo posted here on the barn.

Sorry Mikeinnj. I did not intend to bore you with the travel log. My intent was to bring out the background details of the failure of the Automatic Timing Device installed on one of the Model A's on the trip.
June 4 date - details of the engine work done on the cars before leaving on the trip.
July 2 - Replacement of a failed Automatic Timing Device.
July 20 - Failure of the bearings in the engine.
When the Automatic Timing Device failed it locked the timing... Advanced.
Climbing hills without the ability to retard the timing took its toll on the underside of the engine leading to its destruction.
Again, I apologize for not stating the details in a brief post.
