Same as Blockheads. The 90 degree adapter is really worth the price. I started with an early horizontal A-aford-able, found the adapter online. First, it is less messy. Most important, when horizontal, half the oil drains out. When vertical, you can pre-fill it, and it retains the oil and does not need refilling.

sticking out to hopefully catch some cooling air coming through the radiator. This concept is a hold over from adding oil coolers on my old Harleys. ![]() "Any filter is better than no filter!"....to me. ![]() Bob-A ![]() |

Guys,
Will a PH8A fit with the 90 degree fitting and engine pans or will I need the shorter filter? R/ Roger. |

I use the A Ford Able adapter and add the 90 degree adapter to change the direction of the filter. Wrote it all up several years ago.

I was going to put a bypass filter on so I removed the side cover, drilled and tapped it for 1/8"NPT, reinstalled the cover and went to remove the plug out of the block and found it doesn't have one. It looks like the block (May 1930) was never drilled and tapped for a plug. No room to drill it while in the vehicle so it's going on the back burner for now.
FWIW, cleaning the old side cover gasket off the block was something else, the top 1/2 came off NTB but the bottom half looked like some PO had used white paint for a gasket sealer. Never saw anything like that before.

I do like the idea of filtering the oil, but I was worried about the none pressurized system being able get the oil through the filter. Is there a by pass in the adaptors?

The oil pump will pump the oil through the filter just fine. The low pressure is only due to the oil line being open at the end in the valve chamber. It's just like a water hose that is open at the end. If you put a pressure gauge on the side of the hose at the end it will show almost no pressure until you block the flow with your hand, then the gauge will go up to several pounds of pressure.

Roger, see my picture in post #3. I have a PH8A filter equivalent (WIX 51515) on mine with pans in place. Plenty of room. The bottom of the filter comes to ~even with the oil pan rail.

What is a good filter kit to use on an A block running a tube header? I don't think any of the current filter kits will work on my set up.
