Wiring harness clip

There is a picture in the Judging Standards that shows a clip used after April 1929 to hold the headlight/horn wiring harness in place from the switch at the bottom of the steering column to the radiator shell. I am attaching a picture I took of the picture in the Judging Standards below. My question is: What held the wiring harness to keep it from flopping around before the clip was installed starting in April 29? I suppose there was nothing used to secure the harness and it was just loose or possibly a frame clip was used like for the taillight harness.

I don't think that is the answer Rusty is looking for.. He likes to assemble things properly to specs

My pickup is a January 29 and when we got it in 62 there was and there still is no clip.

Of course the clip or what ever may have disappeared over the years.

But my point is that the harness just sort of hangs there, it is pretty stiff and the headlight and horn wires hold it pretty steady. When the truck is running with the hood open there really is no discernible movement of the harness.

Mitch is right, I am not looking for farmer fixes. I like to try to make thing like they way they were originally done. Sometimes it is hard to figure out how and why Ford did what they did. Maybe like 1955cj5 said, the harness just sat there until April 29 when someone at Ford thought vehicles needed to have the harness secured. I though maybe Ford used frame clips, but maybe not.

Do a search on Snyder's on line catalog for "Clips", there's a bunch of them for all sorts of applications.

Rusty, I do not believe there was any clip used, not even a frame clip there. I judged electrical at French Lick, and I know we would check for that clip after April 29, but there was not anything that we were looking for on the earlier cars, and a frame clip would not have been used there.

The question was brought up yesterday in an email,...that's how this got started.

I believe the answer is the "fan shroud",..either first style with the clips or
the second style with the "trough". The clip in question was put into production
when the fan shroud was discontinued...

Anybody else agree?

I think you are probably correct, no clip bracket or frame clip used. The Judging Standards do not address anything on earlier than April 29 vehicles, which may mean nothing used to secure the harness before April 29. I guess I don't need anything for my Nov 28 special coupe or my Jan 29 phaeton. I will need a clip, like in the picture, I posted for my mid 29 CCPU.

Prior to April '29, there was no clip and the tail lamp loom simply laid on the engine side pan until the wire clip on the lower frame rail about 3 to 4 inches aft of the rear engine mount. It is obvious that every time the cooling system was drained, the water would run down the engine side pan and get the rear lamp wire wet.

Thanks, Gary. You concur with 31Tudor that there was nothing securing the headlight loom between the switch and the radiator shell. I guess it just sits loose on the top of the lower frame rail. All my pre April 29 vehicles have fan shrouds with the trough on the bottom.
