Re: 12 volt ignition
Am I reading your post correctly:
You have an electronic dist. And, you also have a 47 dist with a crab style cap. Now, which distributor (if you in dead have two) are you asking the condenser/coil question about? Or is the 47 distributor converted to an electronic pickup? |

Re: 12 volt ignition
Sorry for not being clear. I want to replace the electronic distributor with a points distributor for better advance. it is a 47 distributor with a crab type cap. I need to know what to run as a condenser and what type 12 volt coil to use . Thanks

Re: 12 volt ignition
Good discussion to have with Bubba. I understand points uses a different coil. My '47 has a fine-running electronic using crab style distributor. No problems with ignition advance. Bubba made a complete spare set-up for me.

Quote:
Without the ballast resistor the best coil is the Bosh Blue coil which is about a 4.0 ohm coil. With a ballast resistor you need a 1.5 to 2.0 ohms coil with the ballast resistor making up the difference (an additional 1.5 to 2.0 ohms) for somewhere around 3.5 to 4.0 ohms total resistance in the circuit. |

Re: 12 volt ignition
There would be no difference in the advance UNLESS it was a different brand name etc. The Ford crabs all have the same advance ( 11A assembly) ,if its a Mallory , pro comp or MSD thats a different story , but easily fixed with a tear down and adjust.....
