Default Painting 29 Tudor Wheels

Hi Gentlemen,

My Plan is to blast the wheels on my 1929 Tudor Sedan with Tractor supply's
Black Diamond fine grit sandblasting compound, and from there epoxy prime
the wheels and wanting to paint them Black,is there a code out there i can use
to get a correct color match of the black?
I am "not" going to do a total restoration on the car, but would like the correct
black on the wheels.

Thanks for your Time!

Allen,
I would use PPG DPLF90 (black) epoxy primer (two or three coats) and two or three coats of Concept 9300 black top coat. If you apply the top coat within a few days, there is no need to scuff the primer. That is what I use on black items - fenders, splash apron, etc. Is is a nice black, black.

BTW, be sure to check the hubs for cracks and separated spokes before you paint the wheels. There are many problems that can happen to wheels - bent spokes, broken loose spokes, wallowed out lug nut holes, cracked hubs, rusted out 21" outer rims.

Agree with Rusty, but if they are pitted you will need to fill the pitts with putty and sand. Or you may be able to use PPG's K36 primer after the DP 90 and sand and re prime multiple times until they are filled. After you do all of this you will need to hit with the DP90 mixed as a surfacer before applying the final top coat.

The process will really depend and how pitted the wheels are and how good a finished product you are looking for when complete.

It takes a whole lot of time to get a pitted wheel to look nice.

It's AMAZING what we can do, with time, care & patience. I've seen wheels, painted with spray cans, that pass off as being Powder Coated.

I have checked the rims and have found cracks and bent spoke's and actually
scored two good rims to replace the bad one's for $15.00 for both Rims

Car is all Original for the most part and was my Grandfathers! Seen better days and needs to be restored, "BUT" the way i see it, they are only Original once and will probably keep it
just the way my grandfather drove it back and forth to his Barber Shop!
I have two other projects in my garage and if i was to tear the car down it probably
would never get back together so my plan is to keep it running and enjoy the heck out of it just the way it is, and pass it on to my Son.

Thanks again,
Allen

Also make sure they're not bent and wobble.

Have you looked into powder coating? How much will it cost you to blast prime paint including your time versus sending them to a powder coater?

Be sure to paint the back side of the spokes over the hub with a brush afterward. The spray thickness there will probably be too thin to last. A pin stripeing brush works well.

Another good black is Chrysler Code "DX8" or "PX8" same colour has a touch of blue in it.
It's the blackest looking black I've found.

If there is a Les Schwab tire store in your area check with them about the powder coating service they offer for wheels.

You really cannot beat their price here in Sacramento. Black of course is one of the colors they offer.

Just Not interested in Powder coating as Friends of mine have had stuff done by different
places and they all have seamed to fade and go flat after awhile here in the Az Sun
even with a so called UV inhibitor to help reduce the fading. Not against powder coating at all its just that i have invested allot into painting equipment and want to stick with paint.
just to ask again, is there a true Black code out there that Ford has for their colors And
maybe a Chart that had Fords Model A color's?
Thanks again for All your help! and suggestions!
Allen
I will try and post pics when i can also

You are right, black isn't black these days, Checkout a color chip book and look at different brand of autos and see the different blacks listed for the same brand of car
