Default 46 Ford dual exhaust & manifolds

Wanting to put dual exhaust system on and would like to put headers on such as Bob Drake has listed. Would like to get more clearance with steering box then current stock manifolds provides. Any one used Drakes header and which one, any other units available elsewhere ?

I used Red's Headers and extensions on my '47 Ford Convertible, with Brockman Mellow-Tone steel packed mufflers, been on the car for 20 years, sounding better all the time.

Don't want to rain on your parade, however, the facts of the matter is that headers do nothing for a stock engine that stock cast iron manifolds with dual mufflers won't do.
Headers on a street engine is another of those old-time myths that keep getting passed around.

Bobs headers on my 47, fit great, was a pain routing the exhaust around the clutch pedals though.
Reds also makes a very good header. I have them on my AV8.

I second Vic's comment. I tried Speedway "economy" headers on my 8BA. They wouldn't fit. Honest Charlie recommended Red's. They are great and fit with no problem.

If the headers are that close to the steering box you may want to think about a heat shield. The last thing you want is to cook the lube in the box and melt the seals.

Mine are very close to the steering box, hadn't even considered the heat issue, perhaps I'll have to cut it up again

I haven't experienced heat related or clearance problems with the steering box on any of the vehicles I have Red's Headers on, that includes my '39 CS, '47 Convertible, '51 F-1, '53 Convertible and '53 F-100 Panel Truck.

John, she is on and off the road... We haven't had a chance to drop the pan and check on the source of the developing 'knock' just yet so, I've been limiting the drive time. Too many projects and not enough time...

Reds Headers and Case tractor steel-packed mufflers on the '51 pick-em-up. Highly recommend Red's.

You young'uns and your noisy cars. Just give me a nice mellow gutted muffler. JWL welded up one for me several years ago, and I can still hear it, but can't hear my wife. LOL

Just a note from 'the other side'. I welded threaded pipe nipples onto factory diamond flanges and bolted them to the manifolds. From there I took my bucket of fittings and using 45s was able to clear everything needed, pivoting and rotating around stuff with ease. Couple tack welds when complete. All the way to the rear of my '47 2 ton. Straight pipes. Last system I'll ever have to build for that one. Last dual exhaust I had built at a local shop was just short of 500 bucks. I know few here would stoop that low, but it got me on the road.....
