Default adjusting pressure plate fingerI

I am trying to adjust my v8 pressure plate fingers the problem is I get a different reading on the same finger when I change the location of the flat piece of metal across the surface of the back side of the pressure plate and measure down to each finger. Help. Thanks John

Is the problem just with this one finger ?
How much difference is there ?
Is there a problem with the cover ? Such as bur or stamping defect ?

The problem may be that the top of the pressure plate assy is not flat. Some of the books say to make a very precise measurement ( +-.002") for the fingers from a unflat surface. It is not always possible, but I set mine up with a dial indicator with the base on the block and the flywheel mounted on the crankshaft. That takes the unflat top of the assy out of the equation. About 15 minutes to get a Model a clutch adjusted to +-.001. Sure helps eliminate the clutch chatter.

Sounds like Mark has the answer. Next time I do one I think I'll 'borrow' his idea on an original style unit just to see if there is a difference after trying it the 'old fashion' way.

I've mentioned this before, but, I don't measure. I turn a piece of round stock to the exact diameter I want and then just set them to the same 'drag'.

I would think so, depending on how many times the clutch gets pushed. City driving, like where I live can wear out the clutch and brakes.

I put a light coat of high temp grease on the fingers where the throwout bearing presses on them.
