Selling a 39 ford
I have a nice 39 Ford deluxe 2 door sedan and I am thinking of putting it on consignment with G R Auto Gallery located in Grand Rapids, Traverse City, and Detroit, Michigan. Anyone have any experience with this company or suggestions of others in Michigan? Jon Laing

Re: Selling a 39 ford
Why not try Ford barn first, then e-bay.

I guess you get what you pay for. After placing an ad on ebay I have 4 responses. All scams from China. Seller beware. Jon Laing

Re: Selling a 39 ford
Looks like it will take an aggressive buyer to get this one. Passive interest "buyers" are AKA Lookie Loos.
Sounds like the man doesn't really want to see it go, but is at a place many of us will be at before long. I wish him well and hope he is able to not sell it until he is darn good and ready!

Re: Selling a 39 ford
Many in the hobby don't want to face the reality that the market for our kind of hobby cars is shrinking as we old goats get ill or pass on. That's not to say that all the buyers have disappeared, we just need to work harder to find them than we did, oh say, 10 years ago.
I sold my '39 deluxe sedan earlier this year. It was before most of the country had good enough weather to be interested so I just put it up on C/L locally, figuring I'd get more aggressive in posting at larger distribution sites later if it didn't sell. As I expected, I got light local interest, a couple tire kickers and one guy who looked at it hard but couldn't get past his wife. The ad even got posted on Bring a Trailer which sent it world wide, but that only got me emails telling me how nice it was......gee, thanks guys. But then, a guy down in California used one of those "programs" that search C/L nationwide, we corresponded, he drove up, and took the car home. As for foreign buyers, yeah, scammers can be a problem. On the other hand, last year when I sold my traditional hot rodded '30 hiboy the most serious/fastest acting person was a fellow in Japan. It took a few days for the bank transfer of funds to go through the international hoops, but otherwise it was a smooth sale. So, you never know where your buyer is, but like many things in life, success (and "luck") results from effort.

Re: Selling a 39 ford
I've had the best luck selling old cars by parking them along a well traveled road, an Interstate is best. With this approach, you reach people that aren't searching the ads looking for something rather, you reel-in the guy that had one in high school and had to sell it when he went to Nam or where ever. Get it out where people can see it and let them fall in love with this car all over again. Good luck.
