Default Shipping A Car

Has anyone had any good, or bad luck dealing with any car shipping companies. I am looking into possibly purchasing a '35 Ford on the West Coast and would need it shipped to Pennsylvania.

I am looking for a trustworthy shipping company that will work in a timely manner.

Any advice is welcome.

Enclosed transport would be a big advantage but not a necessity.

thank you
Zach

Truly Vintage has a nice setup if you can work in with his schedule.
He monitors and posts on the Barn and Hamb.

Reliable & Intercity, had a friend ship a car with Exotic Car Transport that was paid by the buyer but he was not impressed when they showed up to load the car.

There are 3 QUALITY transporters in the Hamb O Dex section of the Hamb: BenD, Racinman & myself. This section is great because you can see hundreds of references from ACTUAL car guys who have used the services. Whomever you choose, do a Google search of them & make sure they use quality equipment made to do the job.

I have used Passport Transportation several times and would definitely use them again. VERY professional and will give you the quote on the phone. I used Horseless Carriage once and would never use them again. Best of luck.

I, too, used Intercity to ship two cars from PA to AZ last year. They brokered the job to Plycar. Service was excellent, driver was a pro, cars were in a specialty covered trailer and they were picked up and delivered exactly when promised.
Wouldn't go anywhere else if I had it to do over.

Dick.

We used a former company that is now Plycar back in 2004 to take our car from Florida out to Pebble Beach. They did a good job and also arranged storage for our car after the show as it would be a day or so before they were able to have a trailer ready and full to come back east. They were good then!!! I think several of these type of shippers will work together (if need be) to accommodate your needs.

I've had quite a few cars transported over the years, and Bill Squires of Bill's Auto Works is the best I've ever used. He just delivered a '40 Tudor for me a few weeks ago.

I used Intercity and would use them again. I even arranged to have their 18 wheel enclosed truck meet me at a local Home Depot parking lot so that the driver could load the car directly onto my raised flatbed - since their truck would never make it down my narrow road.

I have used Reliable several times with good service. On a model A though they did not know about the fuel shutoff. Other friends have used a website that will receive bids from independents. They have had good luck there,

I sold a car this past Spring and the buyer wanted some suggestions. I suggested U-Ship. It's an open carrier transporter. They called on a Friday saying that they were in my area but since I did not have all the funds in my account I said no deal and told the buyer. The buyer then put all the funds into my account and the very next day I got a knock on my front door and it was another carrier. He loaded it up on the bottom right in the front. The buyer received the car a few days later in good shape. No damage.

I wouldn't let Passport transport a skateboard. Nasty drivers, indifferent salesmen, and many missed deadlines.

Enclosed trucking is relatively expensive but may be desirable for certain cars/situations. I went with open and had no problem.

I was not happy with Uship. Ebay charged me about a 10% broker's fee for the shipping arrangement and then Uship charged me about a 30% broker's fee so they could pick up the phone in their Florida office and make an arrangement with an independent trucker in Ohio. The independent trucker's fee was reasonable and he was prompt and professional .... he's based in Ohio and I can provide his name if interested. I am in NY State.

I have used Thomas Sunday in the past with good results. Shipped a '35 Ford 3W from Phoenix to Wilmington, OH for around $1400. But that was 10 years ago. Pat

Many of these transport companies are nothing more than brokers trying to find a spot on a trailer. The driver wants a full trailer and might meander around the country continuously looking to fill any open slots, often at the expense of your arrival date. I would get a FIRM date window when they guarantee they will pickup and deliver. Twice I had shippers totally miss the pickup date and each time the seller was moving away and could not wait.
