Lots of pics on internet if you look at 1930's parts stores. That might give some ideas. I wasn't around then but I bet you'd find tobacco tins and rolling papers, a hand-cranked pencil sharpener, and tire gauges for sale.

Been looking at many photos and did get some ideas from them.
