Hi guys, this has been driving me crazy for months. After 20 mins. Driving I have no fuel pressure. Installed 3 carb manifold with 97s. Installed a carter elec fuel pump in the rear at the tank with filter at the suction side. Preset the fuel pressure at 2 1/2 pounds. Runs great for 20 mins then fuel pressure starts dropping to 0. Installed a return fuel line to fuel tank from fuel block.no better.
Checked carb temp when pressures sure is 0 and it is only 97 degrees. Engine temp 160 degrees. This is the second carter pump. Tried it with the fuel cap off .still drops to 0. Any one have any ideas. Thanks.. |

Maybe check the supplied voltage and amp draw at the pump during start-up then again after 20 min.

Hook up a mechanical gauge and see what the pressure is.

Right after the 20 minutes when it stops running, disconnect the fuel line at the carburetor and see if the fuel pump is pumping fuel. If your fuel pressure gauge is one of those after market 'liquid filled" gauges, drain the liquid out of it and it will probably show a reading.
That's what I did to my liquid filled gauge. Even though it read "zero" it was really pumping fuel. Don't know what regulator you're using, but i found the little Holley regulators to work good. |

When the fuel pressure drops to 0 does the engine die out from lack of fuel?

I agree with 36 flathead. I had a same situation. Found there was a piece of masking tape that floated around in the tank and it was eventually attracted to the fuel line and stalled the engine out. Of course, after stopping it started floating around again. Oh yeah, how the tape got there is a complete mystery ! You should be able to remove the gas gauge unit on the top of the tank and look around with a bright flash light. I could see nearly every part of the bottom of the tank. Let us know the answer to your problem.

If the tank isn't new, or if it's original, and hasn't been professionally cleaned' then
I would change the fuel filter fairly often. .

He said car stumbles - I doubt gauges have anything to do with it

I would move the filter to inlet at fuel block. Then blow back fuel line with 40 lbs. air. to tank.

Yep, I gotta wonder about that, too.
