The horizontal front plate on my 39 deluxe carburetor is held by 3 screws. 2 of those screws are stripped. It does not leak fuel. Is there a way to fix stripped threads or should I just leave it alone. I would be more comfortable fixing the stripped threads. Hopefully I do not need a new carb. Jon L.

You can get a helicoil kit for this...some of the threads included in basic kit are very short as needed for some of the carb screws.
From memory...Ford carbs (usually a big "Ford" on bowl, 91-99 for '39) are #10 fine, Strombergs #10 coarse, but better check me. Kits come wth what you need for quite a few threads and the necessary special tap and instructions. NOT hard to use. |
