locking gas cap

does anyone know a supplier and the part number for a locking gas cap that will fit my 47 ford? someone keeps borrowing my gas. thanks for your help......george

Most V-8 parts vendors carry the locking cap. How about hooking up a Model T coil the gas neck? I'll bet they don't touch it after that experience.

Security camera might be safer.
Locking gas cap is less expensive but not as much fun,

A Model T coil does not have to be hooked up to the filler neck, it is hooked up to the body with a small chain attached to the ground side of the coil, insulated from the body, that provides the ground. A person touching any part of the vehicle completes the circuit, therefore, touching the cap would zap the perp, prior to removing the fuel cap. Very slim chance of an explosion.
I had a model T coil hooked up to a car I had in the late '40's, my father showed me how to hook it up. Great fun when a carhop put a tray on the window sill, providing the tray did not contain several A & W mugs of root beer, or a gas jockey attempted to check the water, oil, especially if the ground was wet.
On the down side, the "T" coil would drain the 6v battery very quickly, usually had to leave the engine running.

Blucar you still get fumes around the gas cap just take a good sniff. I'm not going to test out your theory.

years ago my high school buddy ran a fake filler to a gallon container which he pissed in and poured waste liquids in and every now and then he would get some fool trying to steal gas. his gas filler tube was in the trunk, safely locked up. might try that again.....

My comments were not based on theory, they were based on actual applications of a Model T coil on several vehicles, and the usage thereof.

I had a Dennis Carpenter locking gas cap on my '47 Ford Convertible however, it was a real pain in the butt to get the key and cap in and out of the gas door opening on the fender, that's before I had a garage for the car... There are Ford Gas Door Locks, they were an approved accessory, I'm sure you could locate one here on the FordBarn or on E-Bay, etc.

locking gas caps are not really the answer, every seen the damage done by some one prying the cap off? a better solution is to get one of the spring wound coils, they have a large opening on one end and tapper down to about 1/4" on the other, you screw it in the fuel tank filler pipe, and push it down a few inches so you can get the pump spout in the filler pipe, once in almost impossible to get them out, does not restrict adding fuel , and you don't have to worry about losing a key, they have them on ebay for around $7
