Linkage on carb.
1950 V8 RTH engine. I have taken the carb. apart but can't get the little short linkage to the accelerator pump off, therefore I can't remove the pump. How do I get it off?

Re: Linkage on carb.
002,
Some links have a spring clip on the thru end...not always real visible unless you know it's there. If no clip just try winding the link back and forth to work the tiny retaining ball ( which you cannot ever see ) loose. This is a common "joy". Charlie ny |

Re: Linkage on carb.
I can see the ball but it won't come out. Afraid I'll brake it

Re: Linkage on carb.
I don't think you can possibly see the spring loaded retaining ball with the pump link still installed, since it is inside of the hole in the pump rod. You must be looking at the tip of the pump link that goes through the pump rod.
Try using the tip of a screw driver to pop the link out from the back side. A little oil may help too. Sal |

Re: Linkage on carb.
I always hit the area around the ball at the top of the link with a penetrant a couple of days before I begin on the carb.

Re: Linkage on carb.
Twist and pull it while applying pressure with the tip of a screw driver on the back side. There is a spring loaded ball in the hole where the pin goes through that seats in a groove in the pin.

Re: Linkage on carb.
I had one that would not let go. Finally cut the pump rod and removed both ends. Installed new parts. Sometimes that's about all you can do.

Re: Linkage on carb.
Get a pair of the right sized needle-nose pliers, grab the large part of the shaft as tight as you can with the pliers as far in as you can, and then grab a piece of 2X4 or something similar and give the pliers a good swat on the end of the handles. (Try to hit the end of the handles evenly and watch out for your fingers!)

Re: Linkage on carb.
Got it out. Someone sent a PM to use a punch or nail and drive it out from back side. It worked.
