Remember too, that those white wall tires had the white walls on BOTH sides of the tire, a practice that continued until after WW11 (1945).

I love my whitewalls and all my cars have them but I save the black walls for my trucks.

Both of my cars came with whitewalls. I will replace the whites on my TS this spring. I am not a whitewall fan, but I kind of like them on the roadster. I will figure out what to do with that when the time comes. The Garfields on the car now are in pretty good shape for their age.

From the posted link to Whitewall tire http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitewall_tire

"The status of whitewall tires versus blackwall tires was originally the reverse of what it later became, with fully black tires requiring a greater amount of carbon black and less effort to maintain a clean appearance these were considered the premium tire; since the black tires first became available they were commonly fitted to many luxury cars through the 1930s. During the late-1920s gleaming whitewalls contrasted against darker surroundings were considered a stylish, but high-maintenance feature."

Volvo has developed a clear spray on can, that can be sprayed on ANYTHING, BIKES, BACK PACKS, CLOTHES, ETC. It glows BRIGHT white, under lights, lasts 2 weeks, & washes off easily!! IMAGINE, white wheels & tires, even!! OR, Buster T, in ALL WHITE!!!

I am not a fan of the look of white wall tire but I love the look of white tires.

But in both cases you have to use detergent oil to keep them clean.

Final word in what way? Ford knew many dealers sold unauthorized accessories, this only confirms Henry decided in 1934 to take his cut from the ongoing tire upgrade.

During the A run, everyone had to buy another tube and tire from the dealer for the spare wheel. This made it very easy to sell WW's. No need for the dealer to dismount or remount any tires- if one in four customers wanted WW's the dealer could just swap the brand new black walls for the bare rims on other stock and mount the WW's on those rims.

A good, profitable deal for dealers. The blackwalls never needed to be dismounted, only swapped as spares as long as you sold four cars with blackwalls for every whitewall sale. I've seen original invoices with "white tires" listed in the sale. Those cars rolled out of the showroom on WW's!

and of course the reverse argument... why can't later offered options be applied to earlier cars?

example: I have a 2001 Prius (Gen 1) ... Cruise control was not an option .... but I have installed the factory cruise control from the 2002-2003 models. This is not wrong so why would putting a later option on an A be any different.

(let the games begin!)
