Default 6V optima battery

Anyone using the 6 volt Optima battery? Opinions? Best place to buy one?

Try a search here and on HAMB. I haven't followed too closely but I seem to recall that the current Optima batteries aren't as good as they used to be.

Hi Mac, I bought one in Apr. 2012 and so far it's been fine. At that time, Optima was offering a $25 mail in rebate. I don't know if they do that regularly, but you may want to look on their website. You'll need a different hold down to secure it.

I am running two that I bought years ago. One in my A and one in my 54 chevy. But now my bud who owns a repair business, dropped them due to many come backs and warranty issues. I then went to Costco, who always carried them, and same story. To many warranty problems. The salesman said since they moved to mexico, they just are not the same. Just passing this along.

I purchase one about ten years ago, have left my headlights on a couple of times, etc., and it just keeps on working with no problems.

I can't even get a descent battery (of any kind) at Sears anymore. That use to be all I ever used.

Batteries+ carries Optima, haven't checked them out yet.

Put an Optima 6V battery in the 31 Tudor almost 3 years ago. Drive it all the time, no problems.

Put one in the 29 Fordor 5 months ago. No problems.

Both Model As responded well to the Optima 6V batteries. They crank faster and start instantly. Swapping a flooded battery for an Optima is a noticeable improvement! Do it, and don't look back.

Be sure and get or make an appropriate battery hold down bracket for the Optima. The one from Bert's is good, but the one from Bratton's is neater.

Agree with Carl on the Sears battery situation.

One in each of the a's (2) and one in the 47 Flathead, and one in each of the Mustangs(2); all are 5 years old, and absolutely no problem. Buy a hold down bracket from Mike's: fits perfectly and 10 minute installation. Purchased mine from Amazon - again, no problems.

I just got my first Optima 6V from Amazon. $112.00 was it. I got the holder from a vender, build your own, I had to modify the one I got. The battery works great so far, I have an alternator and positive ground. It charges back up in just a few blocks of driving where the old lead/acid job eventually required some help from a charger if I just drove around our town daily, with no getting our on the road for an hour or so. I am favorably impressed so far.
