We are installing a Columbia that I purchased intact from a gentleman in Monterey California a decade ago - complete set with original controls. He was in his 40s when he purchased this as a spare for his Columbia-equipped 1936 Phaeton, and he had just turned 90 when I met him.
The "Z" shaped control rod between the dashboard and firewall is too long. I bet this might be because I purchased this from a Phaeton owner, which has a different dashboard shape compared to a Cabriolet/Coupe/Convertible Sedan. The Phaeton/Roadster dashboard shape is different than other 1936 Ford passenger cars. Does anyone know the specific difference in firewall distance between the two major dashboard shapes in 1935-36 Ford passenger cars? I've never heard of a difference in the 1935-36 Columbia mechanical controls, but seems there might be. If we can get the difference in measurements we may be able to shorten this Z shaped control rod to fit the Cabriolet. thanks Ken |

You are correct there is a difference in the dash and the distance to the firewall from the close car dash and the phaeton and roadster dash. You will have to shorten the rod.

http://www.columbiatwospeedparts.com...peedparts.aspx John Connelly owns the business and manufactures and sells many of the parts you will need to complete the job. I've known him to take time on the phone to help you out with questions too. They get a lot of spam email so they have their address protected, so when you email him, follow the instructions, be patient and he will get back to you. |
