My hopped Henry...
here is a shot of my roadster that recently came home from the paintshop. It is remarkably solid and rust free.I decided that it was better to put my money into a a stock Henry and enjoy it ,than put it in the bank and lose it..it is a RHD model from South America, that I bought last Autumn from the USA.I have removed 3 leaves fom each end and reversed the eyes on the front spring, I have just made and fitted a 1.75" dual exhaust with porter mufflers, the screen has been chopped 3.25" and the lights changed for a pair of BLC lamps that I had, the wheels were swapped for a set of `40`s 4.5" rears and 4" fronts, the rear sparewheel mount was changed for a spreader bar, the shocks are now tube types,I have a Thickstun PM7 in the garage, just need to save for another 97,.The interior was bright turquoise leather and I changed it to dark red with a recolouring kit .I have just spent the afternoon trying to chop the original roof irons to get a proper profile,.The hood fitted like a chickens lip and needed quite a bit of work, but now fits better than it probably did in June 1932 when it was made.I will include a shot of it before work commenced if I can.BTW, the colour is dark brown...
Hope you like it, Nige. |

Re: My hopped Henry...
Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.....I was pretty scared starting in on this car as it was so nice and original, but one thing I can`t stand with early Fords, is the mile high stance.I decided that if i was going to change things, then the only way was to remove and store every part removed and not drill any extra holes in the car...in this way I eased my concience with the fact that I can put it back to factory any time in the future..and if I decided to sell it, the parts go with it.
If it had come to me finished in all black, then I would not have gone down the full bare metal respray route, but the grey/black scheme did not work for me, and besides the paint was cracked right through to the metal in lots of places and seeing that we get a lot of our sunshine in liquid form ,it did not seem a good idea to leave it open to the elements. The body was totally rust free with some old well carried repairs to the lower quarters, the front fenders had the spare wheel well filled at some time in the past. The mechanicals seem nice apart from the old jumping out of second gear routine...which being rhd can give you a nasty crack on the kneecap...I`m going to have to do something about that. The motor was a bit smokey at first, but I think I`ve got that sussed now...the brakes are the original rod activated ones and I`m thinking of going with a set of Teds Floaters, as I`ve heard a lot of good things about them...failing that, I`ve a full set of rebuilt `40`s brakes in the garage. lol.Truk...thats my brothers pride and joy...it was a very careful parking manouver I can assure you....there is a guy who keeps his 4 Lotus Cortinas up there in the garage and he moans if he can`t get them past to the elevator, so we had to park it up close for a day or so. |

Re: My hopped Henry...
Neal , the tyres are 5.5" and 7.5" Firestones...and Mike, I`m already into chopping the irons (I have even saved the off cuts lol)..I brought a pair of new oak bows in from Lebarron Bonney. The ones that came with the car were made from laminations and had started to delaminate.

That's what gets me about those damned Blower Bentleys too! A beautifully refined and understated 32 you have there -- thanks for sharing it with us. |
