I did beat a rice rocket Civic stoplight to stoplight once. They agreed to pull away in 4th.

If you're considering drag racing or tractor pulling, then I've abused a few. The only abuse I can think of with the old 'A' was one day when my father took it and tried to keep up with traffic on the NYS thruway for about 50 miles. He saw nothing wrong with what he did and pulled in with coolant sprayed all over everything and oil literally flowing out the hood side panels. It was apparently at the start of his Alzheimer's before we realized what was happening. That happened close to 20 years ago and the old girl is going strong, well, almost strong.

Pulled up beside a Lamborghini (Sp) at a stop light in my '29 Tudor, gunned the engine, and gave them the eye, but the two dudes in suites wouldn't even look my way. I assumed they knew they were going to get beat

I used to use my 1934 Phaeton as a parts hauler to local swap meets.

Driving my Double A like I do the F150, ---- Lightend flywheel ---- B carb and manifold ---- 5.5 head still don't get the job, I now need a twin updraft like Purdy has, that will get it.

Nothing improper but maybe a little daring for elderly folks
![]() We have owned many classic 190SL, 911s, Pagodas, E Types, etc during the past 40 odd years, but never a vintage car. We bought a lovely 29 A roadster pickup about a month ago which now lives in our hangar with our classics. We could not resist putting a camping mattres in the back and spent Christmas eve sleeping in our little A. The next day Santa used it to delivered gifts to kids at the airfield. The New Ford ads said "amazing acceleration," so I put it to the test.

I had a bread run in the 70/s and sometimes the bread van was broken down , so I delivered the bread in my 28 plymouth.
Whole front floor and rear tub full of bread. |

I've been known to race other a's going down the road or at a stop light. I've done donuts in a speedster, by this next summer I'm going to have a trailer hitch on my coupe, so I can tow my speedster on a car dolley behind my coupe when I go to meets here in Texas. I like to drive both of them, so why not take both. I won't say the fastest I've ever been in a model a, but I can say it's probably close to double what the average "A" owner drives at. I'm not really afraid of doing much with my cars, if it breaks I can fix it. I've had a lot of fun in my cars, I don't see the point in having one if you're afraid to get a scratch or mess something up. To me, that's not enjoying the car to it's fullest potential.

I entered my 1928 Early Model A Roadster, with approximately 1 hour on the rebuilt engine in it's first car show. I also entered it in the "Slow Drags."
I took 2nd place in both. This was my first Model A, just got it assembled and legal to drive the day before. Knowing what I know now, surprised I didn't blow that engine to pieces. |
