"What is the most improper way you've used your vintage car?" -Petrolicious http://www.petrolicious.com/what-is-...ur-vintage-car
I did beat a rice rocket Civic stoplight to stoplight once. They agreed to pull away in 4th. |
Re: "What is the most improper way you've used your vintage car?" -Petrolicious If you're considering drag racing or tractor pulling, then I've abused a few. The only abuse I can think of with the old 'A' was one day when my father took it and tried to keep up with traffic on the NYS thruway for about 50 miles. He saw nothing wrong with what he did and pulled in with coolant sprayed all over everything and oil literally flowing out the hood side panels. It was apparently at the start of his Alzheimer's before we realized what was happening. That happened close to 20 years ago and the old girl is going strong, well, almost strong.

Re: "What is the most improper way you've used your vintage car?" -Petrolicious Pulled up beside a Lamborghini (Sp) at a stop light in my '29 Tudor, gunned the engine, and gave them the eye, but the two dudes in suites wouldn't even look my way. I assumed they knew they were going to get beat:D:D:D:D:D.

Re: "What is the most improper way you've used your vintage car?" -Petrolicious Driving my Double A like I do the F150, ---- Lightend flywheel ---- B carb and manifold ---- 5.5 head still don't get the job, I now need a twin updraft like Purdy has, that will get it.

Re: "What is the most improper way you've used your vintage car?" -Petrolicious Used my phaeton as a mobile gun platform to shoot rabbits on a country road. Brother perched on passenger seat top with shot gun resting on top of windsheild frame -Lights on and when we drove round a corner and saw the rabbits BANG !

Re: "What is the most improper way you've used your vintage car?" -Petrolicious I've been known to race other a's going down the road or at a stop light. I've done donuts in a speedster, by this next summer I'm going to have a trailer hitch on my coupe, so I can tow my speedster on a car dolley behind my coupe when I go to meets here in Texas. I like to drive both of them, so why not take both. I won't say the fastest I've ever been in a model a, but I can say it's probably close to double what the average "A" owner drives at. I'm not really afraid of doing much with my cars, if it breaks I can fix it. I've had a lot of fun in my cars, I don't see the point in having one if you're afraid to get a scratch or mess something up. To me, that's not enjoying the car to it's fullest potential.

Re: "What is the most improper way you've used your vintage car?" -Petrolicious I entered my 1928 Early Model A Roadster, with approximately 1 hour on the rebuilt engine in it's first car show. I also entered it in the "Slow Drags."
I took 2nd place in both. This was my first Model A, just got it assembled and legal to drive the day before. Knowing what I know now, surprised I didn't blow that engine to pieces. |

Race should be 3 legs. One today and one more each 20 years.. Wow - kind of unfair as my car has got 80 years advantage in streetracing ...or maybe he decides distance and i decide the route??? If i loose, i will buy a Fiat 126 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDdsjJrFS6c  |
Re: "What is the most improper way you've used your vintage car?" -Petrolicious My best friend and I use to go orange grove cruising in his '26 T tudor. Just haul'n a$$ between the trees. He was a policeman and sometimes his cop buddies would get drunk (off duty of course) with us and we would head for the groves..........

Re: "What is the most improper way you've used your vintage car?" -Petrolicious I let a Navy and an Air Force veteran ride in the '29 Coupe. Oh how I abused that sweet ride. lol

Re: "What is the most improper way you've used your vintage car?" -Petrolicious My '28 roadster pickup is a working truck so have hauled just about everything in it. The most unusual cargo was a windmill! It had a 10' fan and I separated the fan and tail from the gear head split the fan in 1/2 and stacked them all in the bed. There were pieces hanging out from all three side and over the top. I got it all home safe but ripped a hole in the top.
