36 pickup bell support over universal left out

Was installing the engine and trans, after being out for 5 years. Forgot about the support that goes over the universal, and inside the bell on the driveline. Had every thing bolted in and found it. Dang it! All unbolted and ready to install it. Just wondering how many times it has been left out, and what would have happened if it was left out? A good lesson which should not have to be learned.
