36 pickup bell support over universal left out

Was installing the engine and trans, after being out for 5 years. Forgot about the support that goes over the universal, and inside the bell on the driveline. Had every thing bolted in and found it. Dang it! All unbolted and ready to install it. Just wondering how many times it has been left out, and what would have happened if it was left out? A good lesson which should not have to be learned. Thanks for your input. Ron

What is that? I've not been into a pre-'37 driveline but have been into several post-'37s and can't visualize that part. What have I missed?

I assume that you are refering to the universal joint inner cap (4513) as shown below.

Thanks Don, I wasn't sure of the correct name. I'm sure if I left it out there would be a problem. Ron

There sure would be. That inner cap serves as a support and swivel point for the drive shaft housing.
