How to remove horn ratchet?

I want to clean up a original Stewart/Warner Model A Horn, but can't get the nut off the ratchet so I can pull the armature out.
Lefthand or righthand threads?
And how do I hold the armature while removing the nut?
I don't want to mess things up, so I'm asking...how do you get that dang thing off without destroying the whole thing?
