Default Quick generator question

For some reason the (made in Taiwan) ammeter burned up today. The car was just sitting there, not running, with the key off (I think) and smoke started bellowing out of the car.
I think there may have been a short in the ammeter, or maybe the wires connecting to the ammeter, but I will look for other possible shorts.
The only other thing that I think I could possibly have wired wrong is the yellow/black wire to the generator. It does go on the side marked "Bat" right?

I've been running the car a bunch of times, and never had a problem until today.
