Default Brake Hose

Heres a thought, and no doubt some of you will reprimand me for cheaping out on brake parts again. But since the brake hose from master cylinder to junction block (on the 52 Merc) is not available through Napa, why not take an ordinary length of steel brake line and form it into a loop for flexibility and just use that to replace the old rubber hose? I've seen that method as factory equipment on newer vehicles and it seems fine. And at about one tenth the cost of the rubber brake line, I like the price.
