Default 39 ford deluxe mechanical fuel pump

Yesterday I changed my stock fuel pump for a 1948 glass bowl pump. It was a bigger job than one could imagine. I had to remove the fuel pump mount tube, mount the pump then slide the entire assembly onto the pump push rod and bolt it down. I am wondering if the pump drive arm is fitting properly onto the pump push rod. Have not tried to start the car yet. The entire assembly seemed to fit tight. I suspect the difficulty resulted from push rod being in its highest position on the cam. What should I do next? Perhaps I should not be concerned. Regards: Jon Laing
