I also like Django Reinhardt, and for some real hip sounds check out Glenn Crytzer, he captures perfectly the prewar period music but is a newer artist.
I will give Glenn Crytzer a try , thanks.

I think that's because there are probably two groups. 1 Those who just like old cars. 2 Those that are using there cars as a sort of time machine for some reason. I think I fall more into the second category. I have always liked older cars but when I drive my 41 I feel closer to the past which explains the period music ( and also maybe the shaving with a double edge , listening to 78s , writing with fountain pens , ect. ). I fell into this by listening to Old radio shows ( Jack Benny , Burns and Allen , Sam Spade and of course Fibber McGee and Molly ) and realizing that these are my people. I know I'm probably romanticizing the past but so what ,I'm happy. Now that everyone on here knows I'm nuts we can get back to Fords.

"Who's this guy Dean Martin and why does he spend so much time copying Michael Buble?"

I have a varied taste in garage music generally provided by internet radio like Martini in the Morning, Frank related stations and female vocalists from the 40's-60's jazz era. This is interspersed with some clanging as a wrench goes flying across the garage. I have not been able to find an original factory radio for my 41 pickup. I'll keep looking (ha!) but until that happens I have the sounds of Creaky Bones. Creaky Bones; that is loose windows, misaligned body panels, and something as yet discovered but hopefully isn't fatal.

Not to stir the pot, but I know that getting the stereo working in one of my old wrecks is the last thing I do. When I first get them on the road and listen that every cylinder is hitting properly. Later, when I am assured that I have gotten things running reliably, I add the tunes because I have now have confidence in the ride.

No radio for me EXHAUST notes are good enough. When I got the roadster it had a fancy removable face plate with 4 speakers. First time I redid it they were history. The 34 5W never had one & I'm not putting one in it. Never used the radios in the bird or vette or cougars . This modern junk is just that junk & trash that I don't care to listen to. Good old country or blues or 40/70. Is about as current as I care to torture my eardrums with. Wish I could destroy everyone of those thumpin jobs that you can hear a mile away. Poor souls won't have any hearing if or when the get to an adult stage. I'll step down now.

If you're nuts I'm just as nuts about going back in time every time I get behind the wheel of "Old Henry" and recreating the past as authentically as possible. Kinda like Christopher Reeves did in "Somewhere In Time". Love it. Funny, that we romanticize a time before ours when younger people romanticize our time that we have more difficulties doing. Oh well, anything to escape from the present even for a few choice moments.

Many people go through life having never enjoyed the sound of their hot rod engine uncluttered by exhaust noise.
If you have efficient but super quiet mufflers you can actually hear the air going through the venturi's of the carbs at 7500 rpm. Most people have never experienced this because they put Smitty's etc etc on and the pipes drown out
everything else, even while driving around slowly in town.
I go the super quiet route so I can hear the whole range of the music while cruising. I can also hear the air and the gear whine at 7500. Best of both worlds.

At 7500 RPM you could probably hear the gear whine with straight exhaust. LOL

Try " The District sleeps alone tonight " by Birdy

or " Lonely Sky " by Chris de Burgh

Maybe " Without You " by Harry Nilsson

Perhaps " Somewhere Tonight " by Highway 101 featuring Paulette Carlson

All can be heard on You Tube.
Heck , and I'm 68 years old.

Some day I'll enjoy the music of the flathead in unison with the whine of the spur gear four speed putting the power through the gear-driven transfer case and ultimately 4.86 gears. Some day...
